Why people call us about patient portal development
You pay a vendor per patient for a portal nobody logs into
Fees go up every year, the design is theirs, and you cannot change a single form without a ticket.
Intake still happens in the waiting room
Clipboards, re-typed into the system by staff, with errors nobody notices until a claim bounces.
Results and letters go out by phone and post
Ten calls a day that a secure message and a document link would replace.
This is for you if
- Practices paying per-patient or per-provider fees for a portal that patients do not use
- Clinics whose intake still happens on paper clipboards and faxed PDFs
- Group practices that need one login across locations, with staff access by role
This is not for you if
You need a full EHR, e-prescribing or claims billing. Those are regulated clinical systems; we build the patient-facing layer that connects to them and we will say where the line is on the call.
We would rather lose the job than sell you the wrong one.
Everything in the price
No line items appearing later. If something is not on this list, we say so before you pay.
Four steps, no surprises
-
01
Map the patient journey
Registration, intake, results, messages, appointments: what happens today, what patients actually ask for, what staff re-type.
-
02
Scope the smallest useful portal
Usually login, forms and documents first. It earns its keep in weeks; the integrations come after.
-
03
Build and test with your staff
Security testing, role permissions, and real staff running real tasks before any patient sees it.
-
04
Launch, train, hand over
Documentation, a training session, every credential in your name, and the code in your repository.
We build patient portals for US practices on the website they already own
We do patient portal website development for physician practices, clinics and specialist groups in the United States. The portal lives on your own domain, uses your branding, and does the jobs patients actually want: register and log in securely, complete intake and consent forms before the visit, see documents and results, send a secure message, and request an appointment. Staff get a dashboard with access by role and an audit log. There are no per-patient fees and no vendor you have to ask for permission to change a form.
Soofi Digital is a US-registered studio (Learn With Soofi LLC) with teams in the United States, Lahore and Riyadh and guaranteed US business-hours overlap. Every build starts with a written scope and a fixed written quote.
What is included
Secure patient accounts with password reset and an optional two-factor step. Intake, history and consent forms completed online and delivered into the portal, not into email. A document area where staff upload results, letters and invoices and patients download them. Appointment requests and secure messages routed to the right inbox. Encrypted storage, backups, role-based staff permissions and a log of who viewed what. At the end you get documentation, a staff training session and the code in your own repository.
Most practices pair the portal with a new practice website, so there is one design, one login and one monthly care bill. Dental and clinic groups usually start from a redesign and add the portal in phase two.
Timeline and price
Portal essentials start at $6,000 and take six to eight weeks on an existing WordPress site. A practice website and portal together start at $9,500 over eight to twelve weeks. Scheduler, EHR export, payment and e-signature integrations are scoped on the call or billed at $60 an hour in 15-minute increments. Terms are 50% to start and 50% at launch, by card or ACH, and the full list of starting prices is on the pricing page.
Proof: portals and gated systems we have shipped
For the National Institute of Technology we built a WordPress site where applications and prospectus requests are handled online rather than by phone, the same pattern a practice needs for intake. Good MDs, a medical practice in Dallas, signed in October 2026 for a website rebuild followed by a patient portal in a second phase; it is in build now and the case study will be updated as each phase goes live. We do not publish numbers we cannot stand behind.
What we will not pretend to be
We are not an EHR, a billing system or a clearing house. The portal is the patient-facing layer that sits on your website and hands data to those systems by export or integration where the vendor allows it. If what you need is really an EHR feature, we will tell you on the call and you will not pay us for a project you did not need.

Learn moreQuestions about patient portal development
How much does it cost to build a patient portal for a medical practice?
A patient portal built into your own website by Soofi Digital typically starts at $6,000 and takes six to eight weeks. That covers secure patient login, online intake and consent forms, a document area for results and letters, appointment requests, secure messaging and a staff dashboard. A new practice website and the portal together start around $9,500. Integrations with your scheduler, EHR export or payments are quoted separately or billed at $60 an hour. There are no per-patient or per-provider fees and you own the code.
Should a small practice build its own patient portal or use the EHR vendor portal?
If your EHR portal is included, works on a phone and patients actually use it, keep it. Practices come to us when the vendor portal is an extra monthly fee per provider, cannot be branded or changed, or does not do the one thing they need, usually online intake before the visit. A portal on your own site costs a one-time build, lives on your domain, and can hand data to the EHR by export or integration rather than replacing it.
Can a custom patient portal be HIPAA compliant?
Yes, provided it is built and hosted that way. We use encrypted storage and transport, role-based staff access, an audit log, two-factor login, and hosting that will sign a Business Associate Agreement. We do not put patient data into email notifications. Your compliance officer or attorney sets the policy; we build to it and document how the system meets it.
How long does patient portal development take?
Six to eight weeks for a portal added to an existing website, eight to twelve weeks when we build the practice website and portal together. The longest step is usually your side of testing: staff trying real tasks and signing off on the forms. We give you a written schedule with the quote and a progress note every Friday.
Can the portal connect to our scheduler, EHR or payment system?
Usually, and it is scoped on the discovery call. Scheduler links and payment providers like Stripe are routine. EHR connections depend on what your vendor exposes: some offer an API, some an export, some nothing. We tell you which before you pay, and the portal is built so that forms and documents still work on their own if an integration is not available yet.
