Landing page or homepage? When a single page is the right thing to build

A homepage has to serve everyone: new visitors, returning customers, people looking for your phone number, people checking you are real. A landing page serves one visitor with one intent, arriving from one place — an ad, an email, a QR code, a mailer — and asks them to do one thing. If you are spending money to send people to your site, the landing page is where that money either turns into enquiries or evaporates.

Why the homepage loses

Someone clicks an ad for “emergency AC repair” and lands on a homepage that says “Welcome to Smith Home Services” with a slideshow, six service tiles, a news section and a menu. They have to find the thing they clicked on. On a phone, half of them do not bother. The mismatch between the promise in the ad and the page that opens is the single biggest leak in most small-business advertising, and it is invisible because the ad platform only reports the click.

What a landing page is

One page, usually without the main navigation, that repeats the promise the visitor just responded to, shows why you are the right choice, and asks for one action. For a service business that action is a short form or a call. For a store it is a specific product or offer. For an event it is a registration. The page is built to be read in the order someone actually reads: headline, proof, what happens next, the ask.

What makes one convert

The headline matches the ad word for word. The page loads fast on a phone, because that is where the ad was clicked. There is proof near the top: a review, a number, a photo of real work. The form asks for the minimum — name, one contact method, one question — and the button says what happens next (“Get my quote”), not “Submit”. There is exactly one thing to do, repeated at the bottom for people who scroll. And every form submission is tracked as a conversion in the ad platform, so the next month’s budget goes to the ads that produced enquiries rather than clicks.

When you need one

Any time you send paid traffic anywhere. Any time you run a specific offer or seasonal campaign. Any time you have a service that deserves its own search presence but does not belong in the main menu. Any time you want to test whether a market exists before building a whole site around it. A single well-built page can carry a campaign for a year.

When you do not

If nobody is being sent to it. A landing page with no traffic source is just a hidden page. Build the page when there is a campaign, an email, a QR code or a search intent to feed it.

What it costs

A landing page from us is from $750 and takes about a week: written around your offer, built fast and mobile-first, with the form into your inbox or CRM and conversion tracking set up so the results are measurable from day one. If you are running ads without one, it is the highest-return $750 in your marketing budget.
